2018 Long Shadows Chester-Kidder Red Wine
For many years I was a member of the Key Club with Long Shadows from Washington State. I discovered them, as I have many wine producers, via a single purchase from a secondary market supplier called Lot 18 back in 2012. That particular wine was the 2007 Sequel Syrah made by the legend John Duval of Penfold’s Grange fame. I soon discovered the rest of the Vintner’s Collection, Feather, Pedestal, Pirouette, Saggi, & Chester-Kidder. Each one crafted by a winemaker renowned for the particular variety (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Bordeaux Blend, Sangiovese, & Washington Red blend).
I left the wine club a few year ago as I had amassed a fair number of bottles and my tastes were beginning to move towards old world wines, but I still enjoy picking a bottle from these masters and enjoying it with or without a meal. This particular vintage of Chester-Kidder was dark and delicious without being overly fruit forward or “in your face”. Just the ticket to sip while doing some work from home in the evening.
I recommend giving the wines from the Long Shadows Vintner’s Collection a try. Pay special attention to the Feather Cabernet Sauvignon crafted by Randy Dunn of Howell Mountain fame. Just make sure it has some age on it because this wine, like his namesake estate’s editions, ages glacially. Enjoy!
